[ Henry almost nods off to the sound of the water and Dodger humming, but is roused back up again when Dodger's back out. It does feel like barely any time passed at all, and he debates saying something about the man already being dry but decides he probably just doesn't want to think about it that hard.

So he scoffs a little, sitting up on the mattress. ]

I can manage. It's not like I've been shot or stabbed.

[ Maybe stabbed a little. But anyway. Henry's fallen off an entire cliff and managed to still use his own two feet (not well, mind you) so he is very insistent on not being fussed over for getting fucked in the ass. ]

[He snorts.]

Maybe just skewered. Don't worry, if I go any rougher than that I'll make sure to get you into a real bath tub, they're good for sore muscles.

[Or if he talks Henry into getting skewered between Dodger and another man... hmm, good thoughts.

Dodger rolls onto his side, getting comfy in a way that's almost performative.]

Go clean up, think about what you want to do after.

Yeah, yeah. [ Henry snorts right back at him, waving a hand as he finally gets himself up to his feed. ]

That sounds great, though. I'll hold you to it.

[ That being said, he (slowly) makes his way to the shower, where he is going to take a significantly longer time than Dodger did. He's used to long bathing sessions anyway, but also he deserves it today! ]

[There's something satisfying about watching Henry limp to the bathroom - it's pretty much praise for a job well done. He even wolf-whistles at him before settling in to wait.

Waiting involves doom-scrolling on his Watch for a while, seeing what he can find on the Peacock's version of Tiktok. Although in true Tiktok consumer fashion most of what Henry will hear is the first half-second of audio from each video while Dodger just swipes through mindlessly. He's really just wasting time until he's getting attention again.]

[ Henry gives Dodger a rude gesture quickly before he scuttles the rest of the way to the bathroom.

It's definitely not as nice as long, hot bath, but it helps nonetheless. And when he finally comes out of the steam-filled room with a towel around his waist, he already seems to be walking a bit better and everything.

Bed still looks pretty inviting. ]

Do people just stare at their Watch things for everything in your world too?

[ He ponders as he ungracefully rolls himself back onto the bed. ]

[He snorts.]

Yeah, pretty much. It's a distraction, and people love distractions from their shitty lives. Here, check this out.

[Dodger sits up, resting his legs across Henry's lap. It takes some fiddling to figure this out, because he hasn't really had a reason to do this yet, but he manages to project a video onto the wall across from the bed. Unfortunately the videos Dodger tends to watch are just... this but serious.]

Makes sense, I suppose.

[ that's why so many people just hang out at the tavern for various shenanigans, too.

he manages to mask some of his awe and wonder at the projection at least, and watches the video. he does make a face at the actual content though. Dodger what... ]

[Dodger wilts a little. He'd been hoping for a bigger reaction to the Wonders Of Modern Video, but more than that, he doesn't like the feeling of Henry judging his taste in entertainment.]

Yeah? He's got good points. You give women too much freedom and you end up stuck at home hoping she's actually where she says she is, but you can't make a fuss about it because that's 'too controlling'.

[And yet Dodger himself runs entirely on his own schedule and always has... which led to almost daily arguments with his first girlfriend, after the honeymoon phase wore off.]

[ Henry is plenty in awe, but, well.

Dodger. ]

I don't think women are allowed the same things in my time as yours, then.

[ He looks back at the video, even reaching forward like he's going to touch whatever it's projecting. Yeah, he still doesn't get how it works. ]

The women I hang around with are incredibly strong willed. [ And he seems amused by this. ] You'd probably hate them.

[Dodger lets out a snort of amusement. Either at Henry trying to touch the projection, or... everything he says.]

Probably. Bitches can be fun for a bit, but I don't usually have the patience for them. I like women that know when to shut up and do what they're told.

[Small wonder why the women he interacted with most back home worked at the local brothel. It was not a friendly relationship - in fact he goes there mostly for one girl who can shapeshift into whoever he's thinking of.

He pauses, and turns the video off.]

I figured people in your time would crack down harder on it. Turning women into good housewives, training them to serve men, that sort of shit.

[He's not strongly attached to the idea - clearly not, since he focuses so strongly on dating men. He's just working off of his narrow view of the medieval era.]

[ Henry draws his hand back in once he discovers the projection won't be disturbed. ]

You would hate Katherine and Rosa, then.

[ He smiles fondly at the thought of them. Henry does know plenty of milder, more traditional women. But even with Bianca or Theresa, he does seem to take an interest in the pushy ones. Perhaps he shouldn't wonder what that says about him ... ]

They do. These aren't regular women by any means. It's the woman's job to run the home, to mind her husband or her father. You won't just go and find a man waiting for you in the bath house, or a woman challenging you to a duel.

[ The medieval mindset is very much what Dodger is imagining for the most part. Henry is just open minded, and he's friends with all kinds of people. Proper ones, outcasts, peasants, nobles... ]

[Dodger tips his head.]

I guess pushy women are inevitable. Seems like they're more common than not in my time.

[He's thinking about a specific all-woman group of self-proclaimed 'heroes' that were a thorn in his side back home. Not his problem anymore.]

I used to date a chick that was pretty well-mannered - too well-mannered, actually, she really pissed off the man that raised me. He always figured she would call the police on him if she saw too much of what my home life was like. But... I liked coming home to her, after we moved out together. She always had food ready, always kept me company when I asked and gave me space when I needed it, always kept an ear out for what I needed.

[The alternative was pissing Dodger off and risking her own safety but that's... not important.]

God broke the mold when he made her. Haven't met a single woman as good as her since.

[ Henry chuckles. ]

I guess they are? They are people too, you know. People have personalities.

[ Silly Dodger. Unfortunately these flags are not red enough for Henry to actually be concerned about this man's opinion of the fairer sex.

So he just settles back and smiles at this nice woman Dodger had known, and how it reminds him of the nice women in his own life... ]

I know a girl like that, too. And, thank God, she survived Skalitz. She'd make a very good wife, if I ever ...

[ Well if he ever did the Right Thing and settled down with a woman who is very much within his station in life to obtain. But thinking about things like that sucks actually, so he just trails off. ]

[Dodger shifts, to lay back down beside Henry and press a kiss to his lips.]

It really doesn't go away. Trust me. I dated Janet for four years - best four years of my life - and I still slept around with men whenever I got the chance. Any time I got a dry spell it felt like... going too long without a drink or a smoke.

[Granted, not everyone is a cock-thirsty sex addict holding onto their bisexuality by a single thread, but Dodger thinks his experience is normal.]

[ If Henry was drinking, he'd spit it out. As it stands, he sort of stutters into the kiss that Dodger gives him. ]

[ Henry... definitely gets enough tail not to really feel 'withdrawal' (even if it's not with Hans) ... so he is actually just wondering once again if Dodger is okay. ]

This place must really be the life for you.

[He's doing his best to stifle a laugh - honestly he's really enjoying the sputtering, any reaction is fun all by itself.]

This place is perfect. Sex pretty much on demand, cheap booze and cigarettes, the clinic gives me free drugs when I need 'em. No one cares that I've got scars or powers, no one cares that I like men or how I like them, and I don't have to worry about someone tracking me down to kill me. It's got everything I could ask for.

[Granted, he still does worry... that's exactly why he can't be in his room if the locks aren't working. But there's something different about having a few specific enemies, rather than being the most wanted criminal in the city.]

I've heard a few people talking about leaving, but the House couldn't get rid of me if it tried. I'd rather try and pull a few people from my world in here.

I have to admit that is pretty nice.

[ Not worrying about fucking whoever you want, not having to hide in case you're caught and hung for it. The ranks don't even really matter in that sense. A king can roll around with a 2 and no one cares.

Henry doesn't want to really think too much on this place versus Bohemia though, and he shakes his head. ]

They should be paying you for your good business, honestly. [ He laughs ] Who would you want to bring here from your world?

[Dodger has to think a bit - not because he doesn't know the answer, but he can't decide how much to share. When he finally does speak, though, his voice has turned a little more somber.]

My brother. If I only had one choice it'd be him. I wouldn't want to know what he'd get up to here, but... it's been something like nine or ten years since I saw him last. It'd be... good to talk to him again.

[There are other people. A few he actually would want to mess around with, a few he just wants to see again. And then there's his daughter, who... he does want to see, but this is no place for a child. He's also determined to not tell anyone about her. Her existence invites too many questions he doesn't want to answer.]

[ Henry is largely oblivious of course, to Dodger's family, to whom he might want here with him in this sinful place (hence why he asked of course). So he only takes note of the shift in Dodger's tone, and gives an understanding nod. ]

That makes sense, I think.

[ Despite everything, this place also appears to be much safer than the "real world". At least, it's safer than the current state of Henry's.

He also wants Hans to be here for some very similar reasons. And also because he wants to fuck him- ]

I've been told they like to bring in multiple people from the same world. I guess there's a chance.

There's already one person here from my world. So... I don't know if that means we'll get more mutants, or if it's just me and Scott.

[He pauses again, thinking again about how much to talk about.]

Scott's from... the same world, but way further in the past - fifty years or so, before my parents were born. Before the police started cracking down on mutants, before they started using collars that strip your powers or schools that teach you to hide them so they won't cost you your house or job. He's the closest I've got to someone who really gets what my life was like back home, but he's still... things were easier for him than they were for me.

[Another pause.]

It's a good thing. It's good to see someone be proud of being a mutant, and not have it be... something you fake until it's true. But- I don't know, it's different from having someone I know be here. Or even just... someone who's seen the state of the world I lived through.

[Scott is also, notably, not from the same world as Dodger. But their worlds are similar enough that neither of them have fully picked up on that fact.]

Oh. There is? That's good then.

[ He can't pretend that that doesn't give him a little sliver of hope that Hans might show up here at some point. Probably not what Dodger wanted to instill in him, but alas. Henry is the most loyal of dogs. ]

That must be strange. But you've got each other still. I definitely understand what you mean, though.

[ It seems like there are a handful of people here who, at the very least, are familiar with Henry's world. Like for all he knows he's from Dodger's reality, just 600 years in the past.

But it is definitely not the same. ]

Gets a bit lonely. I even keep hearing that Bohemia doesn't exist anymore. What am I supposed to say to that?

[Hans does feel inevitable. But Dodger at least wants to avoid bringing him up too often, because he's pretty sure he knows something about Henry that Henry does not know. And he's deeply threatened by it.

Dodger lets out a soft sigh.]

Countries fall, new ones rise up. Pretty often. My country's been on the way to collapsing for a while, I figure it'll keep getting worse with all the tension between mutants and humans. The important thing is this - that land still exists, and the people still exist, even if the made-up borders change. Here- lemme look something up for you.

[Give him a moment to check something on his Watch...

...Ah. That's not the answer he was hoping for, but. Henry doesn't know as much about using the Watches, he probably won't double-check if Dodger smudges the truth here.]

...Same-sex marriage is legal in the country that exists there now. These searches seem to- generalize what's normal across universes where Earth exists. So... Bohemia's gone, but the culture's still there, and things are better than they were. For men like us, at least.

[ He likely does know things Henry doesn't about Hans. And he probably should be threatened. Henry for his part is just a little sad about it.

And he nods. ] Aye, they do in my time as well. It's just ... this is different.

[ Someone from the future telling him his kingdom doesn't exist when they're currently in the middle of war, fighting so hard for their king and their people, it kind of sucks.

But he has no intention of fact checking Dodger with the Watches or anything, so hearing you can just marry a man does brighten him a bit. Even if that sounds completely ridiculous. ]

It is? You won't be hanged? What about heirs? You can't very well pass your estate on if you've married another man. [ And he has another rapidfire thought- ]

What is my home called in your time?

[He figured that would cheer Henry up - and the barrage of questions puts a grin on his face. It's pride, at finding information that Henry finds valuable. Even if it isn't entirely accurate.]

You won't be hanged, no. Heirs... at least in America, you can adopt children whether you're married or not. It's harder for single people but if you're married it's the same process whether you're gay or not. And adopted kids are just... your kids. And... anyone can pass on their estate to whoever they want, married or not. I've heard of people leaving everything to their dog. Marriage in my time is really just... a tax benefit, more than anything. Most people marry for love but that doesn't keep people together, y'know? Spend long enough in one house and you're bound to piss each other off.

[Dodger was raised by a single mother abandoned by her boyfriend, and then by a gang leader and his mail-order bride who fought constantly and then took out their anger on their children. The only woman he ever considered marrying was actively afraid of him, and to some extent Dodger enjoyed that. And now she's gone, raising his child by herself. He's definitely the last person someone should talk to about marriage, and he knows that to some extent.]

It's called the Czech Republic. Used to be Czechoslovakia, before that. Don't ask me too much past that, though, I never really got that interested in European countries. Most of what I know about is... England and Italy.

[Because learning about his heritage and his brother's heritage, at least, was important to him.]

... Huh.

[ a lot of that doesn't make sense to him, or even sound real, but it does give him a little bit of hope. Maybe Bohemia doesn't just crash and burn, and maybe someday his descendants will be out there loving whomever they want to love.

He huffs softly at Dodger's sentiments about marriage. ]

That's definitely the case for arranged marriages I'm sure. But not if you really love one another. Even if you fight once in a while, that's nothing.

[ Martin loved his mother very much, and the both of them in turned loved him. So he is coming from the exact opposite end of the spectrum as Dodger. Henry is also a bit of a romantic himself.

But he relaxes back a little, rolling the country names around in his mind a moment or two. It's a little bit salty to hear that England and Italy escaped the 15th century unscathed, but that's fine he supposes. ]

The Czech Republic. A Republic? I would never imagine... but I'm glad it's there.
