Not stupid-

[ Ill-advised, perhaps. A decision made of passion. Henry understands it, even if he does still think talking to Esikko at all was a terrible idea.

They had vaguely talked about if Dodger could ever turn off his powers, but of course Henry doesn't really know how that would work, and he wasn't even fully convinced that it wouldn't somehow bring harm to Dodger. Yes, he does know he probably worries too much about the man but he's entirely used to caring about other normal, regular humans. ]

You ... found a way? Is it safe for you?

[ Gotta ask, even if he gets crap for it. ]

I told you I would.

It is stupid, Henry. You don't have to sugar-coat it.

[He just wants to get that out, before the topic changes.]

I- yeah. For my birthday, the House gave me a power suppression collar. The ones the police use at home. I haven't tried it out, it needs another person to take it off.

[He doesn't answer whether it's safe. He honestly isn't sure. But it's fine, it'll be fine. Henry can always take it off if it isn't.]

[ There's a brief intake of breath that suggests Henry wants to protest, but he doesn't press it. It's not the point. Not really. It was still stupid, yes. But now he has to stop Dodger from doing something even stupider. ]

Alright, well ... show me how to do that before we do anything else.

[ He doesn't want to be caught not understanding it in a crucial moment or something. ]

You make it there all right or should I come and check up on you first?

[Dodger hears that, but it honestly makes him more grateful that they do move on. He doesn't really want to keep defending his own self-hatred, even if he thinks it does bear defending.]

I will. Uh... I can meet you there, I'll just have to stop by my room. So, Talon in thirty minutes or so.

[He hesitates again.]

Thank you, for answering. You didn't have to.

[He's still really not used to having someone else to rely on, it'll be a while before he stops being blown away by small gestures.]

Alright. I'll see you there, then. Be careful.

[ As in, he doesn't want Dodger to have second thoughts and run off to Esikko's anyway.

Then he pauses, scoffing gently at the words. ]

I'll always answer, Dodger. Just assume something's wrong if I don't.

...Still. Thanks.

[He will keep that in mind, though. And possibly completely panic if Henry ever doesn't pick up.

Dodger ends up showing up a little bit later, closer to the forty minute mark. He didn't necessarily want to be holding the collar where other people could see it, so it's stashed in the backpack that he drops by the door of the training room once he's teleported in. He's still got a fair amount of anxious energy about him, but... he didn't go after Esikko again. And that's progress.

He's also got some red staining around one of his bandages, but that's... probably fine. They're fairly common, especially when he's stressed.]

Hey. I didn't keep you waiting too long, did I?

You're welcome.

[ He leaves it at that and readies himself to go to the Talon. Not that it takes much. He still doesn't own a lot and it's not like he's got some gym clothes to change into. If needed he'll just take off his shirt.

When Dodger doesn't immediately appear around the 30 minute mark (give or take), Henry might start to pace a little, probably assuming the worst.

It's the first time ever he's a little relieved to see the man appear out of flames and nothingness. ]

You did, you arse. [ But he's offering a smile anyway. ] So show me that collar thing, how it works.

Well, first thing.

[He pulls the collar and its remote out of his bag, but before anything else he walks over to press a kiss to Henry's lips, and drag him into a hug. He needs those, for his own sanity.

And once he's satisfied with his hug, Dodger pulls back to show Henry the collar. It's very similar to a modern shock collar - a metal box on one end, with a light that's currently off, and short prongs pressing in toward the wearer A loop of some kind of very tough fabric extends from it, with a piece at the end meant to slot into the metal box.]

This is a power suppression collar. It's got the same metal in it that makes my medication work, but y'know, more of it. It's meant to shut off my powers and give me an electrical shock if I try to use them anyway - which is safe, it just doesn't feel great.

[Says the man that has never actually worn one.

He holds up the remote afterward - similar to a car fob, it has a similar light that's currently off and two buttons along its face. Dodger presses a smaller button on the side and a key slides out of it.]

When you wanna take it off, you press the key into the slot and turn it clockwise. The buttons... do something, I know one of them delivers a manual shock, not sure what the other one does.

[ Henry blinks briefly, and then brings his arms up around Dodger to return the hug, sturdy and firm. He's glad to see that no completely terrible decisions have been made yet.

But he's completely studious as he turns his attention to the collar and the buttons. It's genuinely a bit of a relief that it has to do with the kind of key Henry is more familiar with. ]

Thank God. That I can do.

[ He isn't sure he wants to imagine what the other button could do though, if one of them makes that electricity stuff. ]

Good. Figured it wouldn't be too tough for you - cops can figure them out.

[Even on the rare occasions that Dodger tries not to seem like a full criminal, he can never hide how much he hates the police.]

Uh... safety thing. Don't touch me while it's shocking me- if it shocks me. You'll just end up getting shocked, too. And believe me, it hurts.

[Not that he entirely trusts Henry not to do something stupid and heroic if given the option... but okay, time for the moment of truth. Dodger presses the remote into Henry's hand, takes a deep breath, and slides the collar on. It snaps into place, and the lights on both it and the remote turn green.

Nothing visually changes, past some discomfort on Dodger's face as his temperature goes down. He's tempted to test out his powers, but... he knows what having his powers shut off feels like, and he's not in a hurry to get electrocuted.]

...Fuck. Yeah, it's working.

[Somewhere in the back of his mind, some gears are turning. That this feels uniquely similar to Augustine's mutation, even more than it feels like Esikko's spell. But the mind is great at not seeing what it doesn't want to see.]

I wasn't expecting an actual key.

[ But he's very okay with it. And he doesn't really know enough about cops to understand that reference at all so he's just going to take it as a good thing.

Henry nods then. ]

Alright. Hopefully won't need to deal with that at all.

[ He doesn't really want to bring Dodger pain. You know, outside of the training ring.

He makes sure the remote is tucked away safely but still easy for him to get to, and then waits for Dodger to put the collar on and adjust to it. Henry has absolutely no frame of reference, but he really has trouble imagining it doesn't feel completely weird and wrong to have your powers turned off. ]

Is it? And you're ... alright?

[ He's a little unsure by those expressions. ]

[Dodger takes a deep breath, and nods.]

I'm okay. It's weird, but- Augustine's mutation could shut off powers. It feels like that, without... [without Augustine actively beating him unconscious while it's in effect] ...anyway, it's fine.

[He moves forward, to take Henry's hands. Dodger's skin is down to a normal human temperature, something he's usually not capable of except for the few seconds right after an orgasm. He's marveling a little at the fact that Henry actually feels warm to him, and that the rest of the room feels properly cold. For once he can appreciate the effect of his bulky clothing, and he deeply appreciates it.]

...I bet sex like this would be fun. [He leans in to seek out a kiss.] So- you know how to box, right? Er- unarmed combat, trading punches?

Seriously? That hardly seems fair... [ not that Henry has any horse in the mutant powers race.

But he nods, looking down at their hands. It really is weird that Dodger doesn't just feel like he's burning with fever. He can't help but smile a little even if it's not the most comfortable for Dodger. ]

What do I feel like?

[ Weird? Normal? He doesn't know. But he snorts at the question, right up against Dodger's lips, even stealing another quick one before he pulls away to answer. ]

Yes I know how to fight without a weapon, Dodger. I was about to ask, since I figured I've got quite a leg up on you with a sword and all.

Mutations aren't fair, they're just nature.

[He has more to say on that - talking about some of the mutants he knows whose mutations are actively killing them, while people like himself have all the power in the world. But it's not really the point and he knows he's privileged anyway.

The question takes some thought, and Dodger hums against Henry's lips while he thinks it over.]

Warm. Way warmer than everything else.

[Dodger's hands travel while he's speaking, letting go of Henry's hands and slowly traveling up his arms to loop behind his neck.]

You'd kick my ass with a sword. But we can trade punches - I'll be good and keep my feet on the ground. To keep things even.

Ah...

[ Well, it doesn't surprise him as much as it maybe should. Life in general...not very fair from a peasant and a bastard's point of view even if he is privileged for both of those stations too.

Rather than troubling over the fairness of the mutant power world though, he smiles a bit against Dodger and then actually laughs a bit, bringing his fists up between them. ]

Are you suggesting I still don't stand a chance against you, then? Let's find out.

[Dodger snorts, and pulls back to bring his fists up in turn.]

Not if I fight the way I'm used to, you don't.

[Just the idea of sparring, though - and especially getting to spar without worrying about his strength - has Dodger brightening up considerably. He takes a few steps back to give them room to move, and gives a cocky 'come here' gesture.]

I'll give you the first move. Don't hold back, I can take a beating even without my powers.

[How does he know that......]

Fuck off.

[ He returns with a smirk, shaking his head. If he gets his ass handed to him with Dodger like this, he actually is going to do some deep, depressed reflecting on his mortality.

For now though he's feeling confident. And while he isn't sure if he should be offended he gets the first swing for free, he takes it, lunging forward at Dodger with a strong right hook. ]

[Dodger moves to the side easily enough - he's fast, for someone of his size and stature. Although he is being genuine about keeping his feet on the ground, and that puts a lot of hard limits on his mobility since he's used to relying on flashy kickboxing. He lets Henry try another punch before he moves in with one of his own, aiming a left hook to Henry's side.

Which... he's pulling his punches a little, but it's still going to hurt like hell if it connects.]

Don't commit to your punches that much. You want to be able to switch gears if I dodge.

[ Henry scoffs, swinging his arm down to deflect Dodger's hook. It still hurts on impact to be sure, but it's not right in his side where he'd be gasping for air. ]

Dammit, Dodger, I know how to fight. This isn't a lesson.

[ He steps back, wiggling his arm out a couple times before bringing both up in a defensive stance. ]

I know my limits, so take me seriously.

Every fight's a lesson. If you're not learning, you're about to lose.

[He is impressed by Henry deflecting him, though - this is already better than sparring with Jayce, he can tell Henry knows what he's doing.

So sure, he'll take him seriously. Dodger moves forward with a few quick jabs, making sure to keep Henry's focus on protecting his chest. And once he's sure he's got that, he ducks down to execute a leg sweep.]

My mistake, wise master.

[ He returns, indeed drawing his attention to blocking jabs to his chest. His reflexes are fast, but not fast enough to dodge the hit to his legs. Though he doesn't completely fall on his ass, he stumbles. ]

Sakra- [ At least he takes the sudden lower position he's in to make a hit for Dodger's side. Two consecutive swings to one side, a quick jab to the other in the chance he's distracted by it. ]

[Dodger gets cocky, as soon as that first kick lands. He forgets, for a moment, that his fighting style relies pretty heavily on teleporting when he gets himself into a bad spot. So he dodges away from the first strike, then the second, and can't quite get away from the third. His reflexes kick in and he tries to teleport - which results in a few sharp warning beeps from his collar as the light flashes orange, right before he gets hit.

Fuck. Okay. He has to stop and regain his bearings, with a look of quiet dread on his face. But- it's fine, he's been tased before, he knows he can handle it. So he does his best to shake it off and get back into things, taking a defensive stance for a bit until he can find a good opening to aim a punch at Henry's stomach, and then another toward his face.]

[ Henry is surprised by the attempt to teleport and the beeps and flashes on it that followed, stepping back a couple of feet though he's still on his guard. Fucking weird, he thinks, but tries to stay focused on the fight. That's what they're here for, to let Dodger get off some steam (and maybe Henry too, God knows he's got some pent up in there). ]

You good?

[ He asks this, but keeps his fists up. Compassion sometimes a weakness though, and while he deflects the punch to his stomach, he gets a punch square in the jaw. Stars fly for a moment, but he's not about to let that be all (especially when he's extra determined to show Dodger that he is tough). He swings out a counter-punch after, turning head aside to spit on the ground. Just in case something's bleeding in there. ]

I'm fine.

[Although there's definitely some alarm on Dodger's face when his fist connects with Henry's face, still used to the amount of damage he'd be doing without the collar on. But Henry's head isn't caved in, so- they're fine. Normal man strength is nowhere near as dangerous, and he's still holding back a bit instinctively.

The extra attention he's giving to check on Henry bites him right back, though, when that counter-punch connects perfectly with his face. Dodger stumbles back a bit, and shakes his head a bit to deal with the momentary daze.]

Here - see if you can dodge this.

[A bit of a warning seems fair. And it seems like he completely misses a punch right afterward - except he didn't, he's faking out and moving into a cartwheel to aim a kick at Henry's shoulder. Which is, in its own way, an admission that he's taking Henry seriously. Enough to not handicap his own fighting prowess, at least.]

[ Henry just shakes it off like he's been punched in the face a few times before, so Dodger is definitely safe from caving his head in for the time being. Thank God too, Henry was starting to get really exasperated thinking about how weak he comes off to people with superpowers.

In fact, he laughs a little bit as his own hit connects to Dodger's face. An eye for an eye and all.

But he's not expecting acrobatics (that's for jesters and actors and stuff...), so he has to stumble back a bit as Dodger cartwheels toward him. He gives a gruff grunt as his foot lands its kick, knocking a bit of wind out of him. But he's too surprised to really get too frustrated about it. ]

What, we're in a show now?

[ He asks, pretty sure he can't replicate that without ending up on his ass so he sticks to what he knows, closing the space between the two of them again so he can use his fists. He waits for any sign of an opening before making his strikes. At the face first, then the gut. ]
